Draw a Straight Line Freehand

In the world, there are people who can't read, but we never think of those who can't draw. Here's a guide to drawing a line and that's the first step to becoming a true drawing legend.

Steps

  1. Find a crayon and hold it in your dominant hand (the one you write with).
  2. Fiddle around with it until you get used to how it feels in your hand. Most people hold it so that their index and middle finger are on the top of the front of the crayon, and their thumb is on the bottom, with the end of the crayon in the space between their thumb and their index finger.
  3. Place the tip of the crayon on the sheet where you want one end of the line to be.
  4. Slowly bring the crayon to another side of the page while still applying pressure with the crayon.
  5. When you think your line is long enough, stop moving the crayon and bring it up off of the page. Congratulations, you have drawn a line!

Tips

  • Once you have mastered drawing the straight line, you can try drawing curves. This is done by sort of changing the direction of the motion while you are bringing the crayon to the other side of the page.
  • Try using a ruler for precision.
  • Become experienced with the crayon.
  • Do not look at the tip of your crayon. Instead, look at the point where your line will end. This takes hand-eye coordination and increases the straightness of your line.
  • Have confidence in yourself, and you will become a line-drawing master.
  • The quicker you move the crayon, the straighter the line will be.

Warnings

  • Beware of paper cuts.
  • Make sure that the side of the crayon that is pointed is on the page. It will still work if the other side is on the page, but not for very long. And people might make fun of you.

Things You'll Need
