Make Cute Hearts from Plastic Straws

Preparing something super cute and easy for Valentine's Day is a cinch with this project. Best of all, even if you've run out of time to make anything else, you can still make this cute heart from a plastic straw because it's simple to do.

Steps

  1. Press down 1cm (.39") from the end of the straw. Using the figure as a guide, cut as shown by the line.]
    • This should be the end result:

A pair of straws

  1. To make a pair of lovestruck straws, tie together as shown in the photograph
    • Here they are, held together and sweetly slipped side by side in champagne flutes for two:

A dipper for chocolate

  1. Cut the straw as described above to create the shape of the heart at the end of the straw.

  2. Seal the other end of each heart straw. For instructions on doing this, see How to make a spinning Cartesian diver.
  3. Dip the sealed end in the melted chocolate placed in a hot water bath.

  4. Cool down with ice to solidify the chocolate on the end of the straw. To do this, simply remove the saucepan from the bowl of hot water to a bowl of iced water.

  5. Put the saucepan back into the hot water bowl. Now dip the surface of the heart straw dipper back in hot water again. Only pull it out when the heat has melted the surface of the chocolate.

  6. Place into little paper candy or cupcake holders or similar item for giving to your loved one.

Adding a note

  1. If wished, you can also put a message rolled inside the heart straw.
