Sweeten Your Watermelon
Have you ever tasted a watermelon that's not sweet at all? Follow these simple steps to sweeten your watermelon.
Steps
- Get a slice of watermelon.
- Get a pinch of salt (not sugar).
- Sprinkle the salt on the piece. This works because salt, in small amounts, will strengthen the taste of sweetness, hence why you can see it in various foods that are meant to be very sweet such as desserts.
Tips
- Sprinkle the salt all around the piece so if you take a bite out of it, it won't taste salty.
- For a real treat use French Grey Sea Salt; take it by the pinch from a salt cellar and slowly salt each piece.
- Try using a really good soy sauce instead of salt. Put a little bit in a bowl, cut your watermelon in bite sized pieces and dip a corner in the soy sauce. It adds salt, for sweetness, and an interesting flavor too. Don't use too much, or you will end up with all soy sauce flavor and no watermelon flavor.
- Make sure you wash the watermelon rind before cutting they are picked directly from the field and then trucked openly usually.
- Most produce departments of good grocery stores will cut a melon or two or three to make sure you get a nice ripe one! All you need to do is ask!
Warnings
- Do not put too much on, or it'll taste salty.
- Try just a pinch slowly getting the right amount by moving the fingers slowly.
