Draw a Straight Line

Drawing a perfectly straight line is nearly impossible. However, with a few simple fail-proof steps, you can become a line pro.

Steps

  1. Assemble the things you need. For drawing a straight line, you will need a piece of paper (or something else to draw on, but paper is the easiest.) You also need a pencil or a pen (markers and crayons are also acceptable). Finally, and almost the most importantly, you need a ruler.
  2. Place your "writing instrument" (pen or pencil, etc.) on the paper perpendicular to the surface so that the writing point is on it. This will become our "start point", or "start location".
  3. Place the ruler on the paper so that it is touching the pencil.
  4. Make the edge of the ruler go along the straight line that you want to draw.
  5. Carefully move the writing instrument along the edge. This is difficult, because you have to press down hard enough so that there is a line on the paper, but not too hard because the writing instrument could break the paper, and then you would have to start your drawing (or whatever it is you were drawing the straight line for) over, which can be frustrating if you have been working for a long time.

Tips

  • While drawing the line, be sure to hold the ruler very still or else it wouldn't turn out to be a STRAIGHT line
